The Cat Action Team (CAT) is a dedicated group of animal-loving volunteers who care for Cape Town’s abandoned and street cats, particularly in industrial areas.
Founded in 1999 by Memory Woodford, CAT is a registered nonprofit organization. Memory was inspired to act after witnessing sick, emaciated cats eating sand in Paarden Eiland, driving her to make a lasting difference.
For over 25 years, CAT has operated without any subsidies or grants, relying solely on donations from the public and businesses. The team runs daily feeding programs for approximately 400 cats and ensures all are sterilized through the proven TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) approach to control and reduce feral cat populations. They also provide medical care to prevent and treat diseases and illnesses.
When tame cats and kittens are found on the streets, often abandoned by irresponsible owners, CAT steps in to foster them and find them loving homes. They conduct home visits and carefully assess new homes to ensure the well-being of these rescued cats and kittens.

Our Books
Our books are crafted for readers of all ages to enjoy. Filled with fun, humor, and adventure, they capture the vibrant lives of our feral cats in an engaging way. Through these stories, we aim to showcase each cat’s unique personality while highlighting the realities they face on the streets. Our goal is to inspire the next generation to get involved, volunteer, and promote responsible practices like TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to make a positive impact. Proceeds from book sales will also help us raise much-needed funds for food and veterinary care.
