Prince
He lived beneath the open sky,
A gentle shadow passing by
With Flopsy near and Ginger close
He found his place, he made the most
Of quiet days and starlit nights
A feral king in soft twilight
Though born to roam, he learned to stay
When kindness called, and food gave way
He’d watch the world with steady eyes
A soul both cautious and so wise
And near to Sue his spirit shone
She fed him love, he made it home
No cage could ever hold his grace
He wore the wild upon his face
But still, he let a few come near
To stroke his path and calm his fear
A prince in truth, with quiet might
Who chose his friends and chose the light
He left too soon, a silent call
The hardest choice, the gentlest fall
We held him close and let him go
Through tears, we whispered soft and low
That he was loved beyond the end
A final gift we had to send
Now still, he walks where grasses lean
Where sunbeams catch the spaces between
His shape may fade, his paws may rest
But memory clings within our chest
The rustle of the leaves at dusk
Will always feel like Prince has passed
So sleep in peace, beloved boy
You brought us grief, you brought us joy
You taught us trust and gave us pride
A quiet strength we hold inside
You mattered here, and always will
Our hearts are full, our world made still.
A special thanks to Sue, who cares so deeply for our ferals and gave the girls a chance at rescue and love.
